A substantial portion of the Merlot vineyard can be found in the Mosson Valley.
The microclimate at Montlobre is slightly cooler than elsewhere in the Montpellier region, and our soils are able to maintain those natural water sources much better during the hot summers. The summer nights in the Montlobre vineyard are often cool, which allow our grapes to mature slowly and in perfect conditions for just a few weeks more. The result is a more balanced Red juice with good, fresh acidity.
The vines grow in fertile, reddish, loess soil that is rich in calcium, iron and other minerals. The wines produced here are complex, creamy, full, round and sultry, with a silky soft tannins and an everlasting aftertaste.
The young dynamic & talented Montlobre wine team work with the best wine innovation and techniques and their shared aim is to produce HIGH-QUALITY Merlot wine cuvées in small quantities. GRANDS VINS with its own distinct signature at an unbeatable quality/price ratio, which emphasize our small, but unique vineyard and exceptional conditions such as the environment, climate and soil conditions.
In the vineyards, this shared aim of the Montlobre wine team is translated in a very environment-friendly approach, with frequent ploughing and a small, but super healthy yield per vine.
The harvesting period normally starts around mid/end September up to mid/end October, depending of the vintage and weather conditions during each vintage of course. The emphasis during the harvesting periods is based to start only when the Montlobre grapes have reach their optimum healthy ripeness, which also obtain the best phenolic ripeness next to the most preferred sugar and acidity levels. By extending the start of our harvest with just a few extra days and a very careful selection during the harvesting, we often manage to meet these important goals.
